I wanted to welcome everyone to 2013, yes I know that a week has already gone by but I figured you were busy reading everyone else’s blogs so I wanted to delay mine. Instead of making predictions this year I wanted to talk about resolutions… and no I am not talking about loosing weight or hitting the gym (although I could use to do both). As security professionals, I think we all need to make resolutions to give more back to the community. As I have said before and will likely say a million times more, as a community security professionals do a poor job of mentoring others within the community. Now before I get flamed, I am not saying it doesn’t happen – there just needs to be more of it. So this year I resolve to: 1. Be a better mentor and share the pains and experiences with others within the community. 2. So that I can continue to give back to the community in a meaningful manner, I further resolve to learn new skills/technologies. 3. As stated before (prior to the new year so I can’t really call it a New Year’s resolution), I also plan on obtaining more certifications this year. I want to get my Security+, CISA, and many many more.
If you are in security community I encourage you to make similar resolutions: to give back and continue to learn.
