If your like me you want your reports to look nice and include detail pictures – after all a picture is worth a 100 words right? So off to my long time favorites Snagit and the ole fall back alt+print screen => both work but they both have their draw backs. For Snagit you have to download the program – I know its not that much of a draw back but what if you need to grab a screen shot on a computer you aren’t allowed to install software on. As for alt+print screen, it does exactly that – captures the whole screen, no matter how big of a capture area you really needed or not which means you are most likely cropping an image to get what you need. Luckily, one of my students introduced me to my new favorite screen capture tool – Snippy (ok so it is really called snipping tool but I like snippy better) and it has been under my nose for quite a while now and I never knew it. So I figured, I would share my little secret for those of you who may not have known it was there either.
Snippy is a Windows 7 accessory – which means it is there by default (no need to install software), and it allows to select the area you want captured. But it does so more too – it will allow you to edit the capture(picture) before you save, it automatically copies it to the clipboard for easy pasting, and most importantly – it is so simple to use. I wish I had found out about it earlier. If your ever in the need of a quick screen capture and are on a Win7 (assume 8 too but don’t have an 8 system to try on) give it a try I highly recommend it.
